Boston Bruins Are In Must Win Mode
TheBoston Bruins ended their California trip with a win last night against the LA Kings. This was a must win game for the B’s as they are in desperate need of every point possible heading into the home stretch of the season.
Boston defeated the Kings 4-1 last night. We saw both Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak pot their 26th goals of the season. The two are tied for most goals on the team, Marchand has the most points with 61. The Bruins next two goals scored by Dominic Moore and David Krejci, were empty-netters.
The Biggest moment of the game came with just under 2 minutes left in the second when Drew Doughty received a pass from Dustin Brown off the half-wall and made his shot, but Anton Khudobin robbed him with one of the best saves of the year. Doby had another game changing save just minutes earlier when he made a huge pad save on the streaking Jeff Carter.
“It’s not easy to do in this league, play big, heavy teams back to back, and [the Kings are] a good hockey club,” said Cassidy.
“We really tried to make sure we had numbers coming back and did a good job of getting pucks out of the zone. They did have a few opportunities in there, but [goalie Anton Khudobin] again was very strong tonight.” — Bruins forward Brad Marchand
The Bruins finished their Cali road trip with a 2-1 record. Wish they could have made it three wins but I will take two, especially if the wins come against top tier teams like the Sharks and Kings. Every win is going to count from here on out. This means that the veterans need to step up their game.
Patrice Bergeron and the Bruins need to have a must win mentality if they wish to make to make the playoffs. I saw on twitter that Bruins Stats tweeted that the “Bruins can only lose in regulation 6 more times in the final 22 games of the season if they want a chance at making the playoffs”.
The Team does have a shot at making the playoffs and going pretty far under new head coach Bruce Cassidy, who’s system seems to be working better than Claude’s defense first system. Bruins are currently just outside the playoff picture just one spot out of the wildcard. They are just 4 points back of the Montreal Canadiens and just 2 points behind the Senators. The Maple Leafs are tied in points but have games in hand so they take the third spot in the Atlantic. Toronto also has the tie barker as they have defeated the Bruins in all 4 match-ups. If the Bruins are going to get to the playoffs then they need to put their sights on the Senators.
Boston heads to Dallas on Sunday to take on the Stars.
