The Boston Bruins Protected Many Expected Players Ahead Of The NHL Expansion Draft, But Maybe The Wrong Miller

The Boston Bruins protection and unprotection list was announced on Sunday morning alongside every other team in the NHL ahead of Wednesday’s NHL Expansion draft.

Boston didn’t have that many choices to make with a good chunk of their protected list made up with players who have no-movement clauses in their contracts.

The most surprising move or non-move was the decision to protect Kevan Miller instead of Colin Miller. Colin is younger and has more upside the the grizzled Kevan who has pretty much reached his ceiling.

That being said, Kevan Miller is a big piece of what Boston wants to do and if he can stay healthy should be a big part of the defense moving forward.

Another area of interest was the decision to protect Riley Nash over Matt Beleskey. But it is sort of telling of Don Sweeney as it looks like he is trying to unload that contract if Las Vegas is willing to partake.

Of the available players below the Las Vegas Knights can chose only one player from Boston. If they are looking for a veteran defender, Adam McQuaid. If they are looking for a younger defenseman with upside, Colin Miller.

If they happen to be looking for a forward, the only one that makes sense for them would be Beleskey. If they want a forward but not the lofty contract of Beleskey they could go the way of RFA Tim Schaller.
