Boston Bruins Rumor: Spooner and team far apart in arbitration

Boston Bruins Rumor: Forward Ryan Spooner and team far apart in arbitration

We have an update on why the Boston Bruins and Ryan Spooner have yet to come to a new contract

According to reports, Spooner has asked for a $3.85 million award. The Bruins have requested a one-year, $2 million award. The Bruins have the right to determine the length of term.

The Boston Bruins can only walk away from an agreement, leaving Spooner unrestricted, if it is for $4 million or more annually. An arbitrator usually settles on a number between the two requests.

This doesn’t have to end in a hearing though. The Boston Bruins and Spooner could come to an extension agreement ahead of the hearing. They could also work on contract details after the hearing and before the arbitrator’s ruling which must come by Friday.

Spooner’s arbitration date is in two days on July 26h.
