Bruins May Be Making A Trade Soon
This would be a good move for the Bruins as they are likely to lose a defenseman in the expansion draft to Vegas.
“It’s an effort to try to improve our hockey club,” Sweeney, who has reloaded the B’s system with numerous high draft picks — including three in the first round of the 2015 NHL draft — of late, said of his willingness to move the pick. “We have had a number of selections the last couple of years and we feel that they’ll all materialize into very good players for the Boston Bruins and I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t explore what could improve our hockey club now in the shorter term.
Brodin would be a great addition to the team as he is a young defenseman (23) and has top 4 potential. Also he is a lefty and the B’s are short on left shot D-men. Brodin had three goals and 25 points in 68 games last season. He also averaged 19:34 on ice time. Which would be great because that would take away from Zdeno Chara‘s ice time. He has 18 goals and 70 points in 331 games. He is no elite D-man but is a very solid guy to have on the back-end.
Brodin is under contract with a $4.166 million cap hit until 2021.
“I owe it to our players and the organization to continue to do that. Whether or not it happens, I don’t know.”
