#2: Zdeno Chara
Zdeno Chara has been with the Boston Bruins since 2006. He came here via free agency after the 2005-06 season after playing for the Ottawa Senators. At the time this was a huge signing as he was a top 4 defensive player and that is what the B’s needed. Also upon coming to Boston he was given the “C” to be the Captain of the team and has had it ever since.
Since then he has appeared in 820 games over the past 11 years, recording 429 points (131 G, 298 A). Along with those 429 points, he is a plus 170. In his entire career, Chara has played 1350 games recording 604 points and a plus 218. Just like Bergeron Chara was a huge part of the 2011 Stanley Cup winning team. He finished the 2011 regular season with the leagues best plus/minus with a plus 33.
That playoff he played in 24 games tallying only 9 points (2 G, 7 A) but was a plus 16. He also averaged 27 minutes of time on ice. He made many big defensive plays to keep the team in the games. In his playoff career with Boston, he has skated in 102 games. In those 102 games, he has 45 points and is a plus 24.
Chara is a kind of player where some hate and some love him. I personally am one who hates him. I am not a fan in the way he plays. What I can respect is what he has done for the team and for bringing home the cup where it belongs. Chara has been a great Captain for the team since he has been with Boston.
He is very well respected around the league except for in Montreal. I have never thought of him as a great player but that is just me as his numbers state otherwise. Chara has been a huge part of the development of this team. He has helped guys like David Krejci and David Pastrnak.
