Boston Celtics Big Man Ante Zizic Continues To Show Growth In NBA Summer League
The Boston Celtics remain undefeated in Summer League play with an 88-83 win over the Philadelphia 76er’s pushing their record to 3-0. There were some good and bad things that came out of the game for Boston.
Second-year swingman Jaylen Brown left the game early with a right thigh bruise in the second quarter. Brown had played 13 minutes up until that point and scored 7 points with 5 boards and 2 blocks. Brown is expected to be fine with the move being precautionary with there being no reason to have him in the game.
This year’s No.3 overall pick Jayson Tatum continued to impress. He scored 15 points and grabbed 6 boards, but his greatest accomplishment on the night was impressing Head Coach Brad Stevens.
“Brad Stevens says he’s been very impressed by Jayson Tatum’s defense. Says Tatum’s length will be a weapon.” per the Celtics.
Others to impress Stevens included Ante Zizic and Semi Ojeleye.
Zizic scored 12 points in the game, but his largest contribution came on the boards as he brought down 13 rebounds. He might have needed a few warm up games but he is starting to look comfortable.
With Zizic though Stevens is understanding of his lack of effectiveness given all he has had to deal with just getting to summer league. Stevens credits the long season in Europe and travel to the United States as the reason for Zizic’s slowness.
For fellow teammate Jaylen Brown, Zizic is being underestimated.
“He’s more athletic than people think,” Jaylen Brown says of Ante Zizic. “He understands the game very well.”
Now one to Ojeleye. Ojeleye played 28 minutes and posted a modest line for a second round player. But Stevens is already envisioning the defense he will be able to run with Boston this season.
“His flexibility defensively is going to be enormous.” Says he can be one of C’s better defenders right out of the gate.
The last player that needs a spotlight on them after the game with the 76’ers is Jabari Bird. Bird dropped 15 points and shot 70% from the field and grabbed 8 rebounds.
