Boston Celtics Rumor: Andrew Bogut Still In Play According To Boston Globe

Don’t look now but the Boston Celtics are in on newly minted Andrew Bogut according to a report put out by the Boston Globe. According to the report Bogut has narrowed his potential landing spots to five or six teams and Boston happens to be one of them.

The rebounding center was waived by the Philadelphia 76er’s on Monday after being traded there from the Dallas Mavericks in a deal that sent Boston area native Nerlens Noel to Dallas in last Thursday’s NBA trade deadline. In Dallas, Bogut averaged 22.4 minutes per game managing only 3.0 PPG, but the key stat line with the big man is 8.3 rebounds per game and an outstanding 13.4 boards per 36 minutes.

The 32-year-old center has only played in 26 games so far this season and has been hampered by lingering knee and hamstring issues which has kept him in a limited minutes role as of late in Dallas. Bogut is a player that the Boston Celtics can certainly use as he is a strong interior presence and is a proven rebounder who has shown the ability to play this season.

With the Celtics getting out rebounded on a nightly basis you would think Danny Ainge would consider adding Bogut but the Team President seemed content with his current team when last asked by the media.

“I like our team right now,” he told the paper, “and unless something really jumps out to us where I feel like we can get significantly better, I’d just assume keep our team intact.”

The rumor wheel before the Globe report all but confirmed that Bogut would sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, but the Globe insists that Bogut is considering Boston and is looking to talk to some of the players on the roster sometime on Tuesday. The C’s have the luxury of offering Bogut a starting role on one of the Eastern Conferences best teams, not the best title chance, but still something he might be interested in.
