Boston Celtics Rumor: C’s Reached Out To Knicks On Marcus Smart
According to one report, the Boston Celtics have reached out to the New York Knicks on a potential trade sending guard Marcus Smart to New York.
This is, of course, related to Boston’s effort to clear cap room in order to sign forward Gordon Hayward to a max contract.
Smart is 23-years-old and averaged 10.6 points per game last year for the Celtics and was a lockdown defender playing starter-like minutes at 30.4 minutes per game.
Smart’s weaknesses continue to be his consistency on the offensive side of the ball. Last season the third-year guard shot 28.3% from three and 35.9% from the field.
The Utah Jazz and the Boston Celtics on Wednesday reportedly talked about a sign-and-trade involving Hayward and Crowder. A trade involving the Boston Celtics is expected to come in the coming weeks with the effort to clear cap room to sign Hayward and clear room for the future to avoid hefty luxury tax fines in the coming seasons.
