Boston Celtics Rumor: If Pelicans Go South C’s Eyes Will Be On Anthony Davis
NBA Executives still tend to think that the Boston Celtics will be highly interested in Anthony Davis.
“Rival executives expect Boston to be keeping close tabs on New Orleans, which is entering a critical season,” The Vertical’s Chris Mannix wrote of this upcoming season. “The Pelicans are committed to seeing if an Anthony Davis-DeMarcus Cousins frontcourt can work, but if the season goes awry, it’s widely believed the Celtics will make a strong run at Davis, who is under contract through 2020.”
Essentially Mannix envisions Boston being able to package a deal for Davis by using multiple draft picks that are in their war chest. At this point it is very unclear what a deal would even look like. Davis is a longshot at this point with much of it betting on the Pelicans wanting to start fresh if they come out the gate losing left and right.
One would have to imagine any deal involving the Boston Celtics and Davis would start with the 18 Brooklyn pick in addition to a multitude of assets.
Adding Davis to a rotation that already includes Isaiah Thomas, Al Horford, and Gordon Hayward would instantly make them front runners in the Eastern Conference.
