Boston Celtics Rumor: Team Working On Acquiring Paul George And Gordon Hayward According To The Vertical
Here it is, a Woj Bomb relating to the Boston Celtics telling everyone exactly what they already knew.
According to The Vertical the Boston Celtics are planning on an aggressive summer with a potential signing of Gordon Hayward and moving assets to the Pacers for Paul George. For salary-cap reasons the Celtics want to get Hayward to commit before they finalize a trade for George according to the Verticals league sources.
One thing that might hold this up is Boston’s timetable which can only kick in when free agency starts in July. Even though the Celtics can offer the best package, the Pacers might not want to wait and could turn to a team like the Cleveland Cavaliers to make a deal.
Boston is positioning itself to make several roster moves to shed salaries and roster space to make a Hayward-George a real possibility. If the C’s fail to land Hayward, there is an alternative being explored.
If Boston can’t acquire Hayward, Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin could be a substitute in this free-agency plan to sign a star and then trade for George, league sources told The Vertical. Also according to The Vertical the Celtics and Pacers were close to a deal on draft night but a third team pulled out stalling the talks. But what Boston can offer the Pacers is young players paired with future draft picks which is something Indiana desperately needs.
