Boston Celtics Rumor: Other Teams Pushing Hard For Indiana Pacers Star Paul George
Just when there seemed like a chance Paul George was coming to the Boston Celtics, those hopes are dashed.
This past weekend it was reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers are going back in on their efforts to land George.
The latest rumor involves a three-way deal being discussed between the Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, and Denver Nuggets. According to Hayes, the deal would send George and Kenneth Faried to Cleveland and Kevin Love to Denver.
Denver is a team that is in desperate need of a star player. That type of player has alluded them ever since Carmelo went to New York. The Cavs need a Paul George type player to overcome Golden State.
But one might think that there is a serious undervaluing of Kevin Love going on. Love is a solid basketball player in his own right and could once again be considered a stand alone star.
With the Boston Celtics, they still are in the best position to land George if they wanted too. And by that I mean they can offer the Pacers a better package. But how much Danny Ainge is willing to pay a star on an expiring deal is unclear.
A rumor last week involved a deal contingent on Boston landing Gordon Hayward in free agency and then George signing an extension with the Celtics.
The feeling is right now, the Boston Celtics will hold pat and hope to land a big name free agent. But looking at their current roster shows an abundance of players and not enough minutes. That problem can be alleviated by a trade along with some roster cuts which are highly likely at some point this summer.
