Boston Celtics Talk: With Hayward Signing, Kelly Olynyk Gone
With the Boston Celtics signing Gordan Hayward on the 4th of July there is a number of side effects that occurred. The first being the renouncement of Kelly Olynyk’s RFA tender making him an immediate unrestricted free agent.
Olynyk has a number of teams looking at him already and immediately becomes one of the better free agents on the market. His value has been gauged from $10-15 million per year. It is highly unlikely Boston retains the 26-year-old unless he is willing to come back dirt cheap which seems unlikely.
Olynyk averaged 9 points per game this past season shooting 35.4% from three and has played for the Celtics for the first four seasons of his career. His most memorable game in Boston will likely be the game 7 affair against the Washington Wizards.
In that game, Kelly scored 26 points and helped the Celtics move on to the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Celtics will also have to peel away some of its role players. This could include Jae Crowder who doesn’t seem to have a place with Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and Hayward on the roster.
