Boston Red Sox Fall To New York Yankees In Game 1 Of Doubleheader

Boston Red Sox offense failed to show up in game 1 of a Sunday doubleheader. The New York Yankees defeated Boston 3-0 at Fenway Park with New York taking a 2-1 series lead.

Rick Porcello went 6 innings getting tagged for 9 base hits but only giving up 1 earned run. Porcello got hosed in the 4th inning with shortstop Xander Bogaerts bobbling what could have been an inning ending double play. The error by Bogaerts turned out to be costly, with the Yankees plating 2 runs in the inning.

The newly called up Austin Maddox threw 1.2 innings giving up 3 base hits while striking out one batter. Like Saturday night, Fernando Abad appeared and only recorded 1 out before Brandon Workman tossed a flawless top of the ninth.

Offensively the Boston Red Sox continue to struggle. The offense pieced together just 4 base hits. Boston even walked more than they hit, with Red Sox batters drawing 7 walks.

The Red Sox have lost 4 of 5 and 6 of their last 8. They are 2-6 against the Yankees this season, scoring 13 runs. 2 of 51 with RISP when playing New York.

With the offense struggling, starting pitcher David Price will have the pressure on him in game 2 at 8 p.m. facing off with Masahiro Tanaka.
