Boston Red Sox Fall To Tampa Bay Rays 1-0 Despite Strong Outing By Starter Porcello
The Boston Red Sox were shut out by the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon and lost 1-0 in the third game of the series.
Rick Porcello was on the hill for Boston and had a stellar outing. In fact, it might have been his best outing of the season. Porcello went 8 innings giving up just one run on 6 base hits while striking out seven batters.
Porcello has received 0 runs of support in nine of his 19 starts this season.
With Porcello going eight innings on the road the Boston Red Sox didn’t have to use their bullpen. But that fact doesn’t make them feel any better about the loss.
Offensively the only real scoring opportunity of the night came in the top of the 9th inning. The Red Sox had two on with one out, then bases loaded with 2 outs, but were unable to score a run.
On the night Boston managed just 3 hits. Those hits came from Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, and Mitch Moreland.
With the loss, the Boston Red Sox are now just 4.5 games ahead of the New York Yankees for 1st place in the AL East. Their record is 50-38.
Boston might be 6-3 on their road trip but they have lost the last 3 of 4 games.
Boston will now have one more game before the all-star break with David Price on the hill Sunday against Chris Archer. 1:10 p.m. start time for that one.
