Boston Red Sox Make Roster Moves Following Sunday’s Doubleheader

With the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees splitting Sunday’s doubleheader, there is a few roster moves Boston had to make.

One was removing a 26th player from their roster to get back down to 25.

In order to get to the 25-man roster and add Brock Holt and Eduardo Rodriguez, the Red Sox have optioned Austin Maddox and infielder Tzu-Wei Lin to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Holt was activated from the DL on Sunday and Rodriguez is set to be activated to start on Monday for Boston.

Maddox was recalled on Sunday and pitched in the first game, tossing a scoreless 1 2/3 innings. Lin appeared in 18 games with the Red Sox and went 14-for-47 (.298) with two RBIs, while giving the team solid defense in the infield. This will be his first time with Triple-A, as he came to the Red Sox from Double-A Portland.

Another move will likely be needed for Tuesday, as scheduled starter Doug Fister pitched in Saturday’s 16-inning affair and will not be able to start as scheduled. Brian Johnson is the potential Tuesday starter.
