Boston Red Sox Optioned Reliever Ben Taylor To The Pawtucket Red Sox On Friday To Add Starting Pitcher Brian Johnson
Johnson is slated to pitch for Boston at Fenway Park on Saturday at 4:05pm against the Seattle Mariners, and in order to make room for him on the roster Boston had to move a piece, that piece happened to be Taylor.
In 11 games this season with the Red Sox, Taylor is 0-1 with a 6.59 ERA and one save. He has 14 strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings pitched. For Johnson, it will be his second major league start of the season, as he allowed four runs in five innings against the Blue Jays to get the win on April 18.
With Pawtucket this year, the left-hander is 2-0 with a 2.82 ERA in seven starts. It likely will be just one start for Johnson as David Price will be re-joining the rotation on Monday.
Johnson was scheduled to start for Pawtucket on Saturday against the Durham Bulls, with the call-up though Pawtucket will send Hector Valazquez to the hill as he returns from starting for Boston last Thursday against the Athletics.
Velasquez was optioned to Pawtucket after the Red Sox called up first base prospect Sam Travis.
