He might be one of the best defensive catchers in the entire game, but man he cannot hit. Vasquez will be an defensive upgrade a lot late in games. Give me a hitting catcher, or some one who can do both OK.
Predictions: .240 AVG in less than 125 at bats
Sandy Leon C:
Time to fall back to earth for Leon and his stat line, from August 17 to the end of the season Leon hit .236. He can also play solid defensively and that is why he will likely play the majority of the games as the starting catcher.
Predictions: .240 AVG in around 400 at bats with 8 home runs and 36 RBI’s
Swihart can hit, and hit well. Issue for him is the log jam with Vasquez and Leon. Swihart’s defensive ability is serviceable, but for some reason Dombrowski doesn’t think Swihart will get any better from a defensive standpoint and could be traded.
Predictions: .270 AVG in around 100 plate appearances
