Boston Red Sox Rumors: Team Looking For Major Upgrade At Third Base Ahead Of The MLB Trade Deadline
Maybe the Boston Red Sox will be making a big move to help out at third after all.
According to a report by MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, Boston is looking to make “major upgrades” at before the MLB trade deadline on July 30th. However, their priority for improvements, Feinsand notes, is at third base, reason being Pablo Sandoval hasn’t lived up to the teams expectations and is currently on the DL with an ear infection.
“Sandoval is basically a non-entity at this point,” a source told Feinsand. “They need to make a move there.”
This is an interesting development given the fact only a few days ago the team seemed content with Deven Marrero and Josh Rutledge platooning the position. But if the team does go the trade route, it will be for a player who is on an expiring contract with the hopes that Rafael Devers or Michael Chavis will be the potential future third basemen.
