Boston Red Sox Talk: Starting Pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez Pitches 8 Innings Against the Oakland Athletics and gets the Win
It was another warm and sunny day at the Oakland Coliseum. It was Baseball weather as the Red Sox avoided the sweep by the Oakland A’s. Pitching Ace Eduardo Rodriguez was ready to start on [Sunday]. And he had quite the start. He wanted to get the complete game but settled for 8 Innings. He gave up just 6 Hits and 3 Runs; Walked 1 Batter and had 8 Strikeouts.
Yeah he had a good day. The only inning he struggled with was the 4th where he gave up a 2 Run Home Run to Chad Pinder. He quickly recovered from it and had a 1, 2, 3 Inning. E-Rod was dialed into the strike zone. What really made him unhittable was his pitch location. It’s been something that he has been working on. He pretty much has 3 pitches; fastball, changeup, and slider. Yesterday he used them all. The location of his pitches really kept batters guessing.
With an Ace on the mound the Red Sox could focus on their hitting. The Batting Order was the first thing that they changed. They kept Dustin Pedroia hitting second behind Mookie Betts and they brought in Jackie Bradley Jr. in the middle part of the order. And these changes really paid off. As they scored twice in the 1st and twice in the 5th with the top of the Batting Order. Making it a [4-3] ballgame.
Mitch Moreland continued his hitting streak with a 2 Run bomb to deep in the 6th, making it [6-3]. Then the Sox just unloaded Runs in the 9th. Pretty much everyone got a hit as they got 5 Runs in the Inning, making it [12-3]. It was a good game for the Sox as that would be the final score of the game. E-Rod got the Win and the Bo Sox didn’t have to rely too much on their bullpen.
