Boston Red Sox Walk-off On A Walk Against The New York Yankees

The Boston Red Sox started the post All-Star break in dramatic fashion. On Friday night at Fenway Park Boston was able to walk-off in the bottom of the ninth inning against the New York Yankees.

Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman was on the hill to close out the game for New York with a 4-3 lead. Despite the dramatic conclusion the play that won the game was ultimately boring.

With rookie Andrew Benintendi at the plate with the bases loaded he was walked by Chapman to walk in the run from third base making it a 5-4 final to walk-off.

Drew Pomeranz was the starter going 6 innings giving up 4 earned runs and 6 hits while striking out 7 batters. Behind Pomeranz, John Farrell used Matt Barnes and Robby Scott.

Barnes went 2 innings and struck out 2 batters. Scott went 1 inning and was the pitcher of record getting his first win of thre season.

At the plate, the Boston Red Sox recorded 10 base hits with 4 batters having multi-hit games.

Boston’s first two runs were accomplished by designated hitter Hanley Ramirez who went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the 3rd inning.

With the win, the Boston Red Sox move 4.5 games ahead of the New York Yankees in first place. Next up for Boston is a Saturday afternoon game against New York with Chris Sale on the hill.
