Game 1 Preview: Boston returns to Fenway Park to take on the Orioles

The (3-3) Red Sox play the (4-1) trending Orioles in game one of a two-game series tonight at Fenway Park.

Boston is currently struggling, whereas the Orioles are currently excelling. Baltimore sits as the AL East Leaders, two spots above the 3rd place Red Sox. Following Boston’s series loss against Detroit, they look to bounce back in this two-game series with the Baltimore Orioles.

Starter Matchup Preview

Drew Pomeranz vs Dylan Bundy

Pomeranz will make his first start of the season after being activated from the disabled list. Questions arise for the new pitcher, wondering if he will be able to stay robust pitching at Fenway.

On the other hand, Bundy, being the great pitcher he is, has a 1.29 ERA and allowed no walks in his first start with the Blue Jays earlier this season. There’s no guarantee Bundy will be on his game, although if he is along with the rest of the Orioles right-hand oriented lineup, the Red Sox will surely have a good battle on their hands tonight.

Weather Forecast

The Weather is looking to be in the mid 70’s in tonight’s Game 1 of the two-game series.

Summary

During game 1 tonight, change for the better must be made with the Red Sox bullpen. Pomeranz must be healthy if the Red Sox have any chance of pulling through.

Red Sox Continue To Be Cryptic On David Price

The Boston Red Sox have been very cryptic on the status of pitcher David Price. Price has been on the DL for quite some time now after initially shrugging the injury off claiming it wasn’t anything serious.

But in the last couple of weeks the Red Sox and John Farrell, in particular, have been very secretive and unsure of his status. The issue is, the opportunity for a rehab start isn’t looking realistic. Price has yet to throw off a mound and with the minor league seasons starting to close in the coming weeks, Price’s season may be done.

Farrell made a comment ahead of Wednesday nights game with the Indians where he claims he is being “realistic”.

I don’t know if I was pessimistic. I think I was just being realistic with that he was currently involved in when you realistically look at the calender and then what the progression is needed to get back to that. I’m not ruling it out, but I think at the same time being realistic.

“Untill he gets on a mound, that’s when we’ll start to get a better idea of connecting to the end date”.

Price remains on the 10-day-dl which he was placed on July 28th with left elbow inflammation. He has been able to throw off of flat ground, but the mound is still an obstacle he has yet to face.

Price has a 3.82 ERA in 11 starts for Boston this season with 66 innings pitched. Right now, it is fair to question why the Boston Red Sox and Price didn’t opt for Tommy John Surgery when this issue first kicked up back in Spring Training.

Pawtucket Red Sox Lose 6-2 To Bisons Despite Good Start By Elias

The Pawtucket Red Sox dropped game 2 of their 4 game series with the Buffalo Bisons on Tuesday night 6-2 at McCoy Stadium. There were 6,502 fans at McCoy Stadium tonight.

Roenis Elias Pitched much better then what his pitching line showed. He gave up 4 runs in 7 innings, but it should have only been 2 run. Elias was also pretty close to doing something that Craig Kimbrel and Rick Porcello have done this season.

The Paw Sox saw all of their offense from a two run home run from Matt Dominguez in the 4th inning. It was a home run that barley got out of the park.
