Jordan Spieth Shoots Bogey Free Round To Start Open Championship

United States golfer Jordan Spieth started this year’s The Open Championship strong.

Spieth shot a bogey free 65 in the first round of play at Royal Birkdale. It was his fourth bogey free round in a major,  with others coming at the 2015 Masters, 2015 PGA Championship, and the 2016 Masters.

Spieth left the round in a tie for 1st place with a 5 under scorecard tied with fellow American Brooks Kopeka.

The 23-year-old hit 36% of fairways and an impressive 83% of greens in regulation. Spieth’s average drive was 298 yards off the tee and he attempted 29 putts on the day.

With play still underway in round 1, we will have an official round 1 recap with an updated scoreboard later. Spieth’s day was electric, but fellow American Matt Kuchar is at 5 under through 9 holes at the time of writing this to make a three-way tie at the top.
