Oregon Able To Hold Off Michigan
Thursday, number 7 seed Michigan played number 3 seed Oregon in the Sweet 16 of the [NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament]. It was a back and forth game with several lead changes. It was a game that Michigan could win. Yet Michigan turned the ball over 5 times in the first half. Something that they are not accustomed to. They had very good shooting from beyond the arc. Which was something that kept them in the game. Overall I’d say their play style was top-notch. Listen it was a close game and it was the kind of game that we have seen from the Wolverines. It was the same play style that helped them eliminate a very good 2 Louisville Team. It was how they got this far.
7 Michigan got into foul trouble late in the game yet with 2 minutes to go they were still in it. The Ducks still had 2 Team fouls to give. The game came down to last possession. Down by 1 point with 10 something seconds on the clock, the Wolverines took their best shot and missed. Losing to 3 Oregon [69-68]. It was a heart breaker, as any Michigan fan could tell you. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the game and I expected the same heroics from the last game that they played.
Although this ended one Cinderella Team’s chances, another Cinderella Team rose to the challenge last night. 11 Xavier beat 2 Arizona [73-71] to move on to the Round of 8 [Great Eight]. They will be playing 1 Gonzaga who beat 4 West Virginia last night. 1 Kansas blew out 4 Purdue [98-66] and will play 3 Oregon. The remaining Sweet 16 looks like this:
- 8 Wisconsin vs 4 Florida in the East Region
- 3 Baylor vs 7 South Carolina in the East Region
- 1 UNC vs 4 Butler in the South Region
- 3 UCLA vs 2 Kentucky in the South Region
The Round of 16 concludes tonight [Friday] on CBS. The games start at 7 pm and 9 pm [CBS, TBS].
