Tom Brady And The New England Patriots Celebrate 17 Years Of Head Coach Bill Belichick Ahead Of Super Bowl 51 Against The Atlanta Falcons
Bill Belichick came to the New England Patriots 17 years ago as of Friday with the now Patriots coach being stolen away from the New York Jets. The story of how the hooded one came to be the head coach is as interesting as the success he has been able to achieve here in that 17 year time period.
Belichick came in being a fairly respected coach who had yet to achieve sustained success int he head coaching position with a failed attempt in Cleveland for the Browns. Now he is considered to be one of the greatest coaches of all-time and is seeking to continue to improve his legacy as he is in hot pursuit of his fifth Super Bowl title as a head coach, a victory he might be able to achieve a week from Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl 51.
In New England Bill has had only one quarterback start in his 7 Super Bowl appearances, and that mans name happens to be future Hall of Famer Tom Brady. A QB who was overlooked and came to the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2000 draft. Over the 17 years the two have had a lot of time together and Brady addressed his feelings toward Bill and his drafting back in 2000.
“We came in at the same time. It was our first year together,” Brady said. “I wasn’t drafted at the time obviously of that announcement but when they picked me I had to look on a map to see where the New England Patriots played because I had never been this far east.
But it was a magical day in my life and I know for Patriot fans having Coach Belichick come to this team was the best thing for this franchise. He has been a great coach, a great leader for our team along with Mr. Kraft and Jonathan. It always starts at the top.”
Over the years the team has been able to achieve the sustained success that Bill had lacked prior to joining the Patriots organization. The question now becomes how long can they continue their run with Brady on the back 9 of his career. If you listen to Tom he will play till he is 45 years of age, but with him already being 39 you can’t help but wonder when the inevitable fall of the cliff moment will come.
