New England Patriots Talk: Free Agent Running Back LeGarrette Blount Signs with the Philadelphia Eagles
I am sure that many are aware that LeGarrette Blount was someone that we all had thought to be gone once he would hit free agency. However, many months pasted since the he left the New England Patriots and then out of nowhere on May 9th, the Patriots signed him to a special tender that would give him a one year deal for 1.1 million. In addition, any team that will sign him will need to give a 2018 compensatory pick to the Pats as well.
LeGarrette Blount to the Eagles on a one-year deal worth up to $2.8M. To clarify any confusion, source says Pats don't have right to match.

It would seem that the Philadelphia Eagles have decided to take that risk and signed Blount for the 2017 season. The Patriots signing the tender mean they are ONLY allowed to pay him 1.1 million which means they can’t match the Eagles offer. The offer is one year for 2.8 million, which is double what the Patriots are able to give Blount.

As of yesterday, Blount has signed the papers for his contract and he will be a Eagle for the time. While he seemingly loved being with the Patriots, he felt it was time for him to move on. The Patriots already have six Running Backs for the 2017 season which is more then necessary. Blount going to the Eagles will likely be to make him a power back that will compliment their shifty runners like Darren ‘Lighting Bug’ Sproles.
Either way, the Patriots and will leave each other on good terms. The team gets a compensatory pick for the 2018 draft and Blount gets to play for a team that hasn’t had a great power back in years. Overall, it would seem like a win-win for both sides. We wish you luck in Philadelphia.
