New England Patriots Could Win Multiple ESPY’s

The day after the MLB All-Star break is one of the slowest days in all of sports. Outside of a couple of soccer games, nothing is going on in sports. It is for that reason that ESPN hosts its annual award show, the ESPY’s.

For the Patriots and their fans, tonight’s award ceremony could be a sweet way to relive the glory of their Super Bowl 51 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

New England is up for a number of awards and in theory, could walk away with the most awards handed out.

Best Championship Performance: Tom Brady Super Bowl 51

Brady’s performance when down 28-3 in the Super Bowl should give him the edge in winning this trophy. But the longtime Patriots QB will have his fair share of competition.

Others in contention for the award include Kevin Durant (Warriors, NBA Finals), Deshaun Watson (Clemson, CFB), and Shay Knighten (Oklahoma, Women’s College World Series).

Best Game: Super Bowl 51

The Super Bowl will be going to the World Series Game 7 (Chicago Cubs vs. Cleveland Indians) and Australian Open Final (Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal)

Best Record Making Performance: Bill Belichick (Most Super Bowl Wins As Head Coach)

Coach Belichick will be in the running with Michael Phelps (most Olympic gold medals), Diana Taurasi (WNBA scoring record), and Russell Westbrook (most triple doubles in a season)

Best NFL Player: Tom Brady

Brady is up for two individual awards during the ESPY’s. This one can be a tad misleading though.

Brady is in the running with Ezekiel Elliott, Khalil Mack, Aaron Rodgers, and Matt Ryan. Brady might not win just because he missed four games to start te season.

Best Play: Julian Edelman‘s Catch

The style for this award is bracket style.

Best Team: New England Patriots

New England is going against a ton of talented teams in this field.  They are going against the Chicago Cubs, Clemon Tigers football, Golden State Warriors, Pittsburgh Penguins, South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball, and the United States women’s gymnastics

The ESPY’s are on ESPN tonight at 8 p.m.
