New England Patriots Talk: Julian Edelman Throws Shade at Peyton Manning at ESPY Awards
The ESPY Awards were held in Los Angeles California last night and was hosted by retired [Quarterback] Peyton Manning. The awards were handed out to many teams like the Golden State Warriors and Chicago Cubs among others. However, The New England Patriots earned the Best Game of The Year Award in their historic comeback against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI.
A quick recap: The Patriots trailed by 25 points heading into the third quarter before rallying themselves to tie the game and win 34-28 in overtime to complete the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history. Up until that game, no team had ever made up more than a 10-point deficit to win a Super Bowl and since 1991, teams that trailed by 25+ points had a W-L record of 4-1057.

Quarterback Tom Brady led the Patriots to make five straight scoring drives as the team scored 4 straight touchdowns and one field goal to win the game. It was the first and only overtime in the Super Bowl’s 51-year history.
The Patriots who attended the show included Malcolm Butler, James White, Dion Lewis, Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman, who on stage receiving the award, used the moment to crack a joke at Manning. He remarked that Manning was “killing it” as the host for the ceremony and Edelman quickly added, “We are indoors, though.” Which is a subtle jab at Manning’s struggles when it came to playing in cold-weather games during his playing days with Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos.
