Celtics Talk: Paul George never wanted to play For the C’s
According to sources, NBA forward Paul George denied the contract extension offer from the Boston Celtics ahead of his trade to OKC.
Earlier in the 2016-2017 NBA season, the Celtics had expressed interest in Paul George. The Celtics need someone who can help on the offensive end and they saw George as the one to do the job.
George never wanted to play for the Celtics. Obviously, he wanted to win. The Pacers weren’t playing with that much effort, so he wanted out.
The Thunder ended up getting him while Indiana ended up with Victor Oladipo and Donatas Sabonis.
Why didn’t George want to be in Boston?
It’s hard to know, but the fact that he wants to create a legacy in Oklahoma is a surprise because the Lakers and Celtics were supposed to be his main trade spots. With all this being said, the Celtics may not have the ability to get an all star, but they can still try to get good pieces that would contribute to their play style.
Editors Note: At this time, there is no hard evidence supoorting the idea that George pushed for OKC over a team like Boston. Also, there is nothing concrete to support George denied any type of extension talk if traded to Boston. It was rumored that George was open to the idea if the Celtics landed either Blake Griffin or Gordon Hayward.
