Boston Red Sox Lose Game As TheyHeading Into All-Star Break With Another Loss To Tampa Bay Rays
The Boston Red Sox lost to the Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 on Sunday in the last game before the MLB All-Star break.
David Price was on the mound and tossed 6 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 base hits while walking 2 and striking out 5 batters. What killed Boston was its bullpen. Matt Barnes only recorded 1 out with the struggling reliever giving up 1 hit and 1 walk along with 1 run in the 7th inning.
Joe Kelly was a tad better pitching 1.2 innings but he gave up 1 hit, 1 walk, and 2 earned runs.
Boston’s offense recorded 9 base hits including a lead off home run by Mookie Betts and a two-run home run by Dustin Pedroia. But for the Red Sox this wasn’t enough.
The loss means they lose the series with Tampa 1-3 and head into the All-Star break with a 3.5 game lead over the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays in the division. After the all-star break the Boston Red Sox host the Yankees in a three-game set next weekend at Fenway Park.
