Red Sox Pitcher Carson Smith Pitches Well In Rehab Appearance

Red Sox pitcher Carson Smith pitched well in a rehab appearance tonight with the Pawtucket Red Sox. In his outing, he went 1 inning, giving up 1 walk, and struck out 1 swinging on 13 pitches (6 strikes). He pitched the 7th inning, where he came in to start the inning.

His fastball topped out at 91 tonight on a consistent bases. He did throw two called strikes in the inning. He also had one called strike. That was on a slider to strikeout Ronald Bueno to end the inning.

It was a much better outing for Smith compared to his 1st appearance with the Portland Seadogs on Saturday night. In that game, he went 1/3 of an inning, giving up 2 runs and 3 walks on 18 pitches (5 strikes).

Analyzing Smith

Even though Smith did throw 7 balls tonight, he was able to get swings on his pitches. This is a major improvement over his last appearance with the Seadogs. Smith still needs work on his rehab assignment as he continues to get his feel of the strike zone. But tonight is definitely a step in the right direction. Especially since he was able to get a swing and a miss on a breaking ball.

“He looked good. He said he felt good after his outing. It was a positive step in the right direction.” Said Paw Sox manager Kevin Boles

Based on his current schedule of throwing, he should be making a rehab appearance this Friday. It will probably be for the Pawtucket Red Sox at McCoy Stadium against the Columbus Clippers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.

You can see the movement on his slider here to Ronald Bueno. As you can see, Bueno didn’t have a shot at that ball.

You can see video of his full rehab appearance tonight below.

Paw Sox Tonight

The Paw Sox went on to win tonight 9-2. The big hit of the night was from Deven Marrero who hit his 1st home run of the season in the 3rd inning. On the night, he was 2 for 3 with 1 home run, 1 RBI, and 2 runs scored.
