Red Sox All-Stars: Betts, Sale, And Kimbrel Named To AL Team

Red Sox All-Stars: Betts, Sale, And Kimbrel Named To AL Team, Bogaerts Still Needs Help

Want to know how many Boston Red Sox players are starters on this year’s AL All-Star team?

Zero, that is right, zero members of the 1st place Red Sox cracked the starting lineup in this year’s All-Star game. Despite there not being any starters, they do have a reserve in this year’s game.

Right fielder Mookie Betts has been named as a reserve alongside pitchers Chris Sale and Craig Kimbrel.

Betts is batting .286 with 15 homers and 51 RBIs, paired with top-notch defense. Sale has a good chance to start the game as he is 11-3 with a 2.66 ERA and is scheduled to pitch Thursday in Tampa. Finally, Kimbrel currently has a 1.01 ERA and 23 saves.

Xander Bogaerts is part of the final vote along with Elvis Andrus, Didi Gregorius, Mike Moustakas and Logan Morrison.

Bogaerts is batting .314 with five homers and 39 RBIs. He was part of the final vote in 2015, but finished in last place. Fans vote online for one of these players to get named to the American League team. Voting will end July 6.

“I mean, I’ve been there before so we’ll see what happens this year. In the end it’s good to have another chance,” Bogaerts told reporters in Toronto. “There are a lot of guys on that list. May the best one win.”

Vote for Xander here.

The AL will take on the NL in Miami on Tuesday, July 11.
