Boston Red Sox Are Number 2 Favorite To Win World Series According To Simulation
Boston Red Sox fans should start to make plans in October as the team is a favorite to win it all according to one simulation.
PredictionMachine.com simulated the 2017 MLB regular season and playoffs 50,000 times as part of its season preview, with the Red Sox winning it all in 15.5 percent of the simulations. They made the playoffs in 87.5 percent of them.
The only team with a higher percentage in either category was the defending World Series champion Chicago Cubs, who made the playoffs in 95 percent of the simulations and won the World Series in 19.5 percent of them.
With the season just weeks away there is still a number of questions that need to be answered for this Red Sox team with the rotation’s health and back end still needing to be answered. Other questions for the team is the catching depth chart with Christian Vasquez, Sandy Leon, and Blake Swihart all competing for playing time.
The biggest question that I have with this years team is who in the lineup is going to pick up the slack in the absence of long-time DH David Ortiz. Will it be the return of Pablo Sandoval, or maybe David’s best bud Hanley Ramirez who will be serving as the team’s primary DH this season with Mitch Moreland being brought in to be the every day first basemen.
An important thing to remember is that a lot of championship contending teams deal with questions such as these, and in theory if David Price, Rick Porcello, and Chris Sale are all healthy this Red Sox team should be a lock for the playoffs, anything beyond that is anyones guess at this point.
