Patriots Rumor: LeGarrette Blount Not Expected To Remain In New England

The NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo said on the station Tuesday that there’s an “expectation” that free agent running back LeGarrette Blount will not return to the Patriots next season.

Blount, who turned 30 in December, is coming off the best season of his career. Playing on a one-year deal in his fourth season with the Pats, Blount ran for a career-high 1,161 yards and 18 touchdowns. It marked his first season with 10-plus touchdowns.

You might remember the last time Blount decided to leave New England he signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, a tenure that lasted a mere weeks as the back was fed up with Pittsburgh and inevitably found his way back to New England after the Steelers released him.

My understanding of this situation is that Blount will be testing the free agent market and if New England wants they have the ability to offer him a competitive contract.

The Patriots still have Dion Lewis and James White on the roster, while Brandon Bolden is also a free agent. D.J. Foster is entering his second pro season after signing with the Pats as an undrafted free agent last year.

The free agent running back market is littered with potential Bill Belichick signees with Adrian Peterson, Eddie Lacy, and Jamaal Charles highlighting the free agent running back class this year.
