Patriots Rumor: Martellus Bennett Reportedly Seeking $9 Million A Year

Speaking on the NFL Network Tuesday, NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo said New England Patriots free agent tight end Martellus Bennett is seeking $9 million per year with his next contract.

With Rob Gronkowski already on the books to make $24 million over the next three seasons, it doesn’t seem obtainable for the Patriots with other pressing free agent needs.

If Bennett would be willing to make less than $8 million a year, it would seem the Patriots would love to have him back, but with him turning 30 this week it would appear he wants to cash in with one last decent-sized deal.

There is sure to be interest in Bennett across because he showed he can still play at a high level and is coming off winning the Super Bowl and is by far the best free agent tight end on the market.

Here is the list of free agent alternatives for New England:

Not exactly an aspiring list of players to pick from, which leads me to believe that Belichick will likely analyze the tight end draft class heavily, this is also where you can second guess him for letting AJ Derby go last season for a blade of grass.
