Red Sox Talk: Rusney Castillo Loses Track Of Outs In Spring Debut

With the Boston Red Sox 9-6 win over the Northeastern Huskies this afternoon at Jet Blue Park in Ft. Myers, there was one major thing that came out of the game. That was Rusney Castillo showing why the Red Sox paid him $72.5 million dollars to be the 8th hitter for the AAA Pawtucket Red Sox.

At one point today he failed to run out a ground ball which resulted in a double play. Castillo claims that he lost track of the number of outs.

Yes, it’s the 1st game of the spring against a bunch of college kids but this is a horrendous look for the 29 year old outfielder. He’s getting over paid and doesn’t have a spot on the 40 man roster. For a team that has next to no depth at each position, this is just plain bad. You could make the argument that newly acquired OF Junior Lake could be ahead of Castillo at this point.

Yes you can say “well David Ortiz would never run out a ground ball like that” but you know what, he wasn’t overpaid by $71.4 million dollars. Castillo will never see the Fenway outfield again because he is not a winner. He is not a baseball player. He will never succeed in the big leagues.
