Boston Wins Game One
Boston Bruins defeated the Ottawa Senators 2-1 last night in game one of the playoffs. That game is the reason I crave playoff hockey. Name a more intense sport than playoff hockey, go ahead I’ll wait. Plus it is huge going into the enemy’s home and winning game one. This is how you start off a series.
There were no goals scored in the first but there was plenty of action. Both teams had many chance. David Pastrnak had a great breakaway chance but he hit the post. Craig Anderson was unbeatable in the first and he made his fair share of great saves. Although it was his competitor Tuukka Rask who was making the big saves. For example his save here, here, and here. He played like a $7.5 million dollar goalie last night. That ended the first.
Once again we saw no scoring from the B’s but we did see a goal from Bobby Ryan. The Senators had multiple chances to make it a two goal game. Rask had other ideas as he made more great saves like this one, I’m still not sure how he stopped it. Then again he made another crazy save to keep his team in the game. The Bruins also had there chances too but once again Anderson was able to steer them aside.
I am not sure if it was the veterans or the coach but the Black and Gold came out flying in the third. Just four minutes into the third Frank Vatrano found himself uncovered in the slot and he made sure to take full opportunity of it. He fired a rocket past Anderson for the B’s first goal. This was Vatrano’s first NHL playoff game as well as his first goal and point of the playoffs. We will probably be seeing a lot more of that in the future. The game continued a tie for almost the rest of the period. It looked as if we were going to get the first overtime of the series. Fortunately Brad Marchand did not want to wait that long. With only two minutes left in the period Marchy put in a rebound for the go ahead goal, that turned out to be the game winner.
Also Charlie McAvoy did not play very much in the third which is understandable. Other than that he looked very good out there.
The Senators gave a last push when they pulled Anderson at about the minute and a half mark. Then once again Tuukka cam up big keeping the B’s lead with these saves here.
The next game is Saturday for the second game in Ottawa before they come back home. It would be nice if they could come home up 2-0.
