Dean Will Serve As Assistant To Cassidy Again But This Time In Boston

The Boston Bruins have named Kevin Dean the new assistant coach. He will serve under Bruce Cassidy.

Dean was the head coach of Providence last season. Coach Dean brought the team to the playoffs with a 43-23-6-04 record. Providence reached the Eastern finals for the first time since 2009. Where they lost to Syracuse Crunch. He has also coached many of the kids that will now be gunning for an NHL roster spot.

Before he was the head coach he was Cassidy’s assistant in Providence from 2011 to 2016. Dean also has some NHL experience as he was a defenseman for the New Jersey Devils, Atlanta Thrashers, Dallas Stars, and Chicago Blackhawks.

It will be nice to see this duo back in action. They have shown that they have what it takes to win, now let us just hope it will transfer to the NHL level.

Bruce Cassidy on Kevin Dean:

“He’s an extremely knowledgeable hockey mind who is deeply committed to the Bruins organization and development of our players.”

With Dean heading to Boston, it leaves the Lead spot in Providence open. Trent Witfield and Jay Leach are said to be up for the position according to Mark Divver of the Providence Journal. Also, both guys spent a stint playing with Boston and Providence in their careers.
