Patriots Reportedly Signing Former Falcon DE Adrian Clayborn

Published

on

It appears that Patriots HC Bill Belichick has woken up from his nap.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN New England has signed former Atlanta Falcons defensive end Adrian Clayborn.

For Atlanta, last season Clayborn recorded 9.5 sacks.

Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL network, the deal with Clayborn is for 2-years worth $12 million overall.

This is considered a big acquisition for New England’s defense and is a nice start to get the ball rolling in the right direction. Clayborn is 29-years-old and has 167 career tackles with 30 sacks over seven NFL seasons.

Clayborn will compete for the starting job with Deatrich Wise, Derek Rivers, Eric Lee, Keionta Davis, and Geneo Grissom

Patriots Signing Patrick Chung To An Extension

Published

on

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the New England Patriots are signing safety Patrick Chung to a short-term extension.

Chung has fared well in his second stint in New England and will now be around through the 2019 season. Since coming back to New England he has been used as a safety instead of being a cornerback which he struggled as earlier in his career.

With Chung being 30-years-old he is still in his prime and having him locked up is a smart move for the Patriots.

Patriots Finally Wake Up And Sign RB Jeremy Hill

Published

on

After days of departures, the New England Patriots have made a relatively decent splash in the free agent market.

According to multiple reports, the Patriots have signed free agent running back Jeremy Hill.

With the signing of Hill, it will be interesting to see if New England decides to keep Mike Gillislee around who might be the odd man out.

Hill will compete for snaps with Gillislee, Rex Burkhead, James White, and Brandon Bolden.

The terms of the deal are not yet known but should be made available shortly.

Hill started off his NFL career hot having a solid first three seasons and showed an ability to not only get into the end zone but to run and catch the ball out of the backfield which is something the Patriots value highly. For New England, they are certainly buying low here on Hill.

The 25-year-old back is coming off his worst career as a pro with just 116 yards on the ground in seven games with a season-ending ankle injury cutting his season short along with being buried on the Cincinnati depth chart behind Joe Mixon.

The inevitable has happened.

Jason McCourty and Devin McCourty will now both play for the New England Patriots with New England makiing a move to acquire Jason.

The Cleveland Browns announced on Thursday afternoon that the Patriots and the Browns have swapped sixth and seventh round picks to finalize the deal. McCourty was released earlier on Thursday creating immediate interest in New England who have had their eye on the McCourty brother for quite some time.

Devin and Jason have both publically stated their desire to play with each other and with the loss of Malcolm Butler, the Patriots were certainly in the market for another corner.

McCourty who is now 30-years-old is in the second year of a two-year deal he signed last offseason with Cleveland worth $6 million.

Now with another McCourty in the fold the Patriots cornerback depth chart starts to round out with Stephon Gilmore, Eric Rowe, Jonathan Jones, Cyrus Jones, and Ryan Lewis all set to play alongside McCourty at the start of training camp.
