On Saturday the USL League One regular season will kick-off for the New England Revolution II. New England will take on Fort Lauderdale CF at Inter Miami Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET. This match which will air on ESPN+ is the 2021 regular-season opener for all of USL League One.

Last season was the first in Revs II history and Clint Peay‘s side went 5-8-3 and finished in 9th place (out of 11). As a whole, the Revs couldn’t do exactly what they wanted with Revs II in 2020. Driven by the pandemic the team was rather stuck in shifting first-team players between the MLS team and the USL League One team. Ideally it would be a back and forth process with players training with the first team and getting match minutes with the second team.

That being said there are early signs of success. Collin Verfurth, Jon Bell, and Maciel have all made the jump from the second team to first-team contracts. In addition, a few players like Connor Presley and Joe Rice have seen first-team preseason minutes. One other sign of success is seeing Revolution Academy players make the jump to Revs II. So far we have seen Colby Quinones, Dennis Ramirez, and Meny Silva all go from Academy players to Revs II players.

“I have set a couple of benchmarks for myself,” said Revs II Defender Francois Dulysse on his expectations for 2021. “How many games I want to play, a certain amount of goals that I want to score, aerial battles that I want to win, individual one-v-one tackles that I want to win. I have set all of those benchmarks for myself so I have a couple of goals. Always looking to get into the first team. If it doesn’t happen this year, it’s not a problem, but it’s going to keep grinding with New England II and work as hard as I can because I love this team.”

Revolution II 2021 Roster:

The official roster of the team by no means is the actual player pool that is available for matches. You are going to see first-team players and Revolution Academy players play a large role on this team throughout the season.

“I think overall most of the guys no each other,” said Revs II Head Coach Clint Peay on the chemistry of the team. “The team off the field is good, there is a good feeling off the field. On the field, I think most of the guys have played with each other before so there is some bit of chemistry there. Obviously, we still haven’t had the chance to train and work together on a regular basis. Just getting used to each other again will be important.”

Goalkeepers: Marzuq Puckerin, Joe Rice

Defenders: Francois Dulysse, Prosper Figbe, Sean O’Hearn, Colby Quinones, Ryan Spaulding

Midfielders: Michel, Taigo Mendonca, Dennis Ramirez, Jake Rozhansky

Forwards: Connor Presley, Ryan Sierakowski, Meny Silva

“We have year-one under our belt for a lot of these guys and how we try and do things,” said Peay on the roster. “Some of the younger guys have that year of experience which helps them now a more viable component in terms of a guy that can get on the field and contribute. Collectively I think we have made some good acquisitions of players that will help the group.”
