Trade For Irving Now Complete, Celtics And Cavs Can Move On

In the least shocking news of the year, the trade between the Boston Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers is now complete.

After Cleveland extorted the Celtics for extra compensation in the deal the Celtics conceded and sent the Cavs its 2020 second round pick it acquired via the Miami Heat.

Now that the deal is complete the official structure of the trade is as follows.

Celtics Recieve:

Cavs Recieve

Cleveland received extra compensation because they believed that the Boston Celtics were not fully transparent about the health of Isaiah Thomas throughout the process.

Even if that is true, the health of Thomas’s hip has been highly publicized and occurred during a series in which Cleveland was playing in.

Boston, on the other hand, believes they were completely straight forward with Cleveland and that the Thomas status was widely known by everyone in the league. But with the Celtics bent over on the barrel, the Cavs were in the unique position to extort Danny Ainge and company for extra compensation.

It is, of course, worth noting that Thomas isn’t expected to be ready to play day 1. Even he has acknowledged that.

“There’s never been an indication that I wouldn’t be back, and there’s never been an indication that this is something messing up my career,” Thomas told ESPN on Tuesday. “Maybe I am not going to be back as soon this season as everyone wants me to be, but I’m going to be back, and I’m going to be the same player again. No doctor has told me anything different than that.”

With the deal now complete, Boston will look to fill the roster spot that has been created by the trade. Candidates for that include Tony Allen and Andrew Bogut.

Celtics Take Down Thunder Behind A Big Game By Tatum

Published

Jayson Tatum

The Boston Celtics defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 100-99 with the C’s winning the game on a huge 3 point shot by Marcus Morris.

This back and forth affair should, in theory, have been a blowout for a Thunder team with Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Carmelo Anthony. But Boston and its band of misfits were lead by Rookie Jayson Tatum and a supporting cast that stepped up in big moments like Shane Larkin hitting a 3 to end the 3rd quarter or Terry Rozier shimmy shaking his way to a late 3 pointer with a defender in his face.

Tatum who is the lone star in Boston with Kyrie Irving out had a double-double on Tuesday night with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Morris who drained the game-winner after shaking off two defenders finished the game with 21 points and continues to be the rock of the team with Irving out with Brad Stevens drawing up the final play of the game with Morris in mind to take the last shot.

But as impressive as Morris has been the real story here is the 19-year-old rookie Tatum who has been on an absolute tear as of late and has stepped up with Kyrie absent.

Tatum was pivotal against the Thunder with Boston essentially being -20+ without him on the court. And of course, he had the game-winning assist to hit Morris on the perimeter after Tatum drove in the lane.

For the Celtics, this was a huge win, but with Irving seeking a second opinion on his knee their future in terms of playoff potential remains very unclear.

Isaiah Thomas Not Ruling Out Return To Boston, Says “Anything Can Happen”

Published

On Sunday night former Boston Celtics guard and current Los Angeles Laker, Isaiah Thomas held a Twitter Q&A on Sunday night and answered a variety of questions including this one posted by @Luke6Hill.

His response to considering reuniting with the Boston Celtics?

That’s right Celtics fans, anything can happen indeed. Thomas since being traded to Cleveland and now to LA has fallen from a borderline max player to a 6th man who could net anywhere from 8-$15 million a season on the free market this upcoming offseason. It is highly unlikely Boston would be interested at that price point if they lock up Marcus Smart, but like Thomas says, anything can happen.
