New England Revolution Attendance Roars Back In 2021

On Sunday evening at Gillette Stadium, the New England Revolution finished their 2021 regular season with a season-high 31,635 fans in attendance. This was the highest reported attendance in Major League Soccer for Decision Day and New England’s highest single-game total since 7/14/2018 when they had 36,573 in attendance when the LA Galaxy came into town.

The 2021 season as a whole was a unique one in a world that is still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic that forced Gillette to be fanless for over a year. New England started its season having capacity limits at Gillette which were eased to full capacity as the season progressed. Due to those factors, the attendance for the team wasn’t announced until the 7th home match of the year.

From home matches, 7 thru 17 the Revolution averaged 18,861 in announced attendance, -276 or -1.4% versus comp matches in 2019. The majority of this decline can be chalked up to midweek matches. The Revolution had three mid-week matches in this period in 2021 versus just two in 2019. New England on the weekends averaged 21,947 in attendance in 2021, +1,018 or +4.9% versus 2019. The Revolution saw a decline in the midweek average with 10,632 average in attendance being -441 or -4.0% versus 2019.
