Three weeks from today the New England Revolution will host either NYCFC or Atlanta United at Gillette Stadium in the 2021 MLS Cup Semifinals. Despite the long layoff there is plenty of Revolution related news including a handful of notes regarding goalkeeper Matt Turner who is currently training with the United States Men’s National team ahead of USMNT v Mexico on Friday.

A simple Tweet can start a storm friends. Yesterday MLS Soccer Dot Com’s Tom Bogert Tweeted out his MLS awards ballot and for goalkeeper he picked New England’s Matt Turner. Then Connor Cape, a Colorado Rapids beat reporter touted that Rapids goalie William Yarbrough had more clean sheets and both a better save percentage and goals against per 90 than Turner despite also having 17 wins. But you see folks when you look at basic stats you just aren’t looking hard enough.

Bogert smartly responded to Cape’s Tweet with the MLS leaders in Goals Against - expected Goals Against. In this stat the best American goalkeeper Matt Turner ranked second in the league at -7.30 behind Andre Blake of the Philadelphia Union. As for Colorado’s Yarbrough he came in at -0.46 in this key metric. Colorado’s back line and defensive midfield was one of the best in MLS in 2021 while New England’s was solid but not nearly as good.

On Tuesday night Turner made an appearance at the Boston Man Magazine cover reveal party given that he is in-fact the cover.

Should I wear a black turtleneck to the press box during the post-season?

The is titled “Never Stop Dreaming, The Matt Turner Story” and is a really solid in-depth look at the Revolution goalkeeper. I’ve said it before and I will say it again. The book that is written one day about the career of Matt Turner will be a page turner.

Revolution RAnk High In Transfer Value

Transfer Market is considered to be one of the gold stands in estimating the transfer value of players. In a Tweet on Tuesday they had the total market value for MLS teams at $1.11 billion and had the Revs as the fourth highest in terms of overall squad value. New England ranking this high is a misnomer as it includes midfielder Tajon Buchanan who is apparently worth a team-high $9.35M per the platform. Buchanan is set to be transferred out following the conclusion of the 2021 MLS regular season.

It’s important not to really dig too much into the numbers of the site as it is more directional than anything.

New England will be back in action on November 30th when they host either NYCFC or Atlanta. The match will kick-off at 7:30 p.m. ET and air on FS1 and FOX Deportes.
