On Friday the Providence College Friars Men’s Ice Hockey team plays their final Hockey East game of the 2019-20 season. To cap it all off is a road game at Alfond Arena located in Orono, Maine. Puck drop is at 7:30 pm ET with PC coming in ranked 18th in the nation and Maine ranked 15th.

Providence owns a 16-11-6 overall record and are 10-10-3 in Hockey East plan. At the moment the post-season fate of the Friars is very much on the line. They can clinch a spot in a Hockey East Playoffs with any of the four routes below.

  • A win at Maine
  • A tie at Maine + UNH tie or loss at BC
  • A tie at Maine + NU loss vs. BU
  • A UNH loss at BC

In essence, the Friars control their own fate and a win would automatically get them into the postseason.

In their previous two games against Maine this year the Friars took both with a 7-0 and a 3-2 final. Overall the Friars own a 20-1-1 record over the Black Bears going all the way back to the 2012 season. Maine’s lone win came last season at home when they defeated PC 3-1.
